About us

Carolina Domes is a family-run glamping retreat created by Zak and Tessa Mayo in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Inspired by Zak’s childhood experiences travelling Europe in a campervan and Tess’s love of welcoming people into a warm, beautiful space, we wanted to build somewhere guests could slow down, breathe, and really feel a camping vibe in the mountains, without giving up a good bed, hot shower, or private hot tub.

Carolina Domes grew out of a simple idea: take the freedom and adventure of old-school camping, and add the kind of comfort you actually look forward to coming back to.

A scenic outdoor scene with a gravel driveway, a white truck, and a white geodesic dome structure surrounded by trees with green and some fall-colored leaves, mountains in the background, and a dramatic partly cloudy sky.

After years living in Western North Carolina and exploring the mountains with our 3 kids, we found this 15-acre hillside and started building by hand, one dome at a time. We planted flowers, added hot tubs and hammocks, carved out walking paths, and watched wildlife move back in around us.

Today, each dome has its own personality, but the heart of the place is still the same: a welcoming corner of the Blue Ridge where people can recharge, celebrate, and make memories together. What started as a single dome and a wild idea has grown into three unique domes on 15 peaceful acres, each with its own character, gardens, and fire pit.

Whether you’re here for a simple weekend escape, a family gathering, or a full wellness retreat, our goal is the same: nature, comfort, and genuine hospitality. All in one place.

The Retreat

Carolina Domes Retreat is a peaceful escape designed to nourish your body and soul.

On selected weeks we host small, intentional retreats with daily yoga, meditation, breathework, and other uplifting practices led by our head teacher, Amber Taylor. Think wholesome meals, unhurried mornings, mountain air, Beautiful locations and evenings under the stars.

Our 15-acre glampsite gives you and your group space to reconnect with nature. Each dome offers privacy and comfort, while shared outdoor spaces, hot tubs and fire pits create natural spots for conversation and community.

The circle of the dome is at the heart of it all: a symbol of unity, wholeness, and continuous energy flow. It’s a space for rest, reflection, and coming back to what really matters.
